FUNNY FISH STORIES

"The Amazing Performing Clown Loach"
by Christine (mopargrrl)---

Speaking of stores with display tanks, while i was up in Portland, I met the Amazing Performing Clown Loach. He's a good 7-8 inches long, and he does tricks on command. He'll come up out of the water and swim on his tail backward like a dolphin! (you've got to see it to believe it LOL). He can also be picked up out of the water and will eat worms out of your hand while out of the water. Very cool, very pretty fish.

"Dave's Moon-Tanning Pl*cos"
by Dave from Venezuela---

PL*COS are a strange fish. Mine will come to the surface of my pond and swim belly up to feed on the stick food/pellets or flakes. They all love to come out for air at night. They actually come out of the water, and lay on a ledge for about an hour, then just leisurely hobble back into the water. It's really weird to see a fish actually come out for a "MOONTAN"???????

"Lois' Pl*co Goes for a Stroll"
by Lois (Biglo)---

I am pleased to hear of Dave's Pl*cos going for a moon-tan!   I have one who does the "counter walk"!   He does it like it's the only thing to do! No stress or difficulty, just lumbers along, walking with his stiff fins and pulling with his sucker mouth! What a sight to behold! I have had Pl*cos for over 30 years and have never seen such a sight! .... I had seen him hanging on the lip of the filter out-flow several times and pushed him back in. Then the cat was meowing at something and begging for me to come. The cat put her paw behind the toaster so I pulled it away and the Pl*co just walked out and across the counter with his sail fin up as high as it would go, just strutting like he was in a parade. I just picked him up and petted him a bit and put him back. I hope he doesn't do it when I am not around to find him! I blocked that exit!!

"Shrimps Take A Hike" by Michiko ---

Amano Shrimps are cool. When I was placing them in the tank, they jumped onto my futon! That was scary...I did not know how to grab them. Funny thing was... 4 of them went walking across my futon!

"Hardiness of a Corydoras Sterbai"
by Frank from the Netherlands ---

Last week I cleaned all my Cory's breeding tanks and put the breeder fish back in my main tank.   After cleaning the tank's, I cleaned the nets in the sink. After a few hours, my wife came home and started too cook dinner for that evening... Chinese with chicken.   We all ate dinner together and enjoyed it.  Then a little while later, it happened..... a loud scream in the kitchen.  I thought my wife was on fire so I rushed down the stairs (almost breaking my legs).   What happened was... after the dinner, my wife was starting to clean the pots and pans and she thought she saw a little piece of chicken stuck in the sink. When she took it out, the piece of chicken started to move and scared the hell out of her. You are right... it was a corydoras sterbai who I didn't see in the nets when I cleaned them. I took the fish out of the sink and put it back in the tank. I thought it would not survive but he is still swimming happily in the tank. So you see after more than 2 hours on the dry, still surviving.   And to all readers of this story, don't do this at home... it could be dangerous.... my black eye is just starting to get it's original color back."

"King of the Mountain"
by Joanna/Donna (d3dd) ---

This pet store had a tank with a little plastic mountain reaching some 6 inches high.   On top of the mountain was one of these mini-crabs.   He had the biggest claw of all the crabs in the tank. He sat high above all the crabs in the tank, and slowly waving that huge appendage so everyone could clearly see who was Top Crab in the tank   :-) While I watched, the other crabs tried to climb up onto the top of the mountain.   Several were ringed around the big boy on top.   He stood his ground, waving that huge claw. If any challenging male so much as stuck one foot on the mountain top, the big male would whomp the offender with his big claw.   The challenger knew he would be attacked so he was ready to duck.   Quite a game ensued.   Finally all the challengers retreated to the floor of tank.   I wandered away but I bet that King of the Mountain game never ends.

"Cory Thief In The Night!"
by Tanya Ormseth ---

I woke early to check my Ram spawn and what did I find? The valiant young mother had somehow gotten (back) into the breeding net and was standing (guard) over her eggs!   WAIT -- who else is in there!!?? Frozen in the glare of the sunshine bulb was a dastardly bewhiskered cory cat!!!! ARGH!!   Quickly I looked at the eggs-- one little cat-sized mouthful on the edge of the leaf was gone!! Stolen!!!   I emptied the nasty catburgler back into the tank. The tiny young mother refused to move out of the net -- so I left her in there today. She has more than earned her stay with her eggs... and she'll be getting a special treat of bloodworms too.   She must have had a long night!
